چکیده

This paper presents the design of an anthropomorphic robotic hand of low-budget, achieving basic grasps similar to the human hand. The hand has an anthropomorphic design with 16 degrees of freedom (DOFs). With 14 Mckibben style pneumatic air muscles (PAM) implemented as the power actuator of the tendon-driven fingers, the actuator offers the robotic hand a compliant, soft grasp for manipulating objects in open-loop control. Besides, this work reports the force transmission layout that enables underactuation which allowed the use of fewer actuators to control the DOFs of the hand. The performance of the hand was accessed through testings using power and precision grasps. © 2012 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd. Air Muscle Actuated Low Cost Humanoid Hand

The control of humanoid robot hands has historically been expensive due to the cost of precision actuators. This paper presents the design and implementation of a low-cost air muscle actuated humanoid hand developed at Curtin University of Technology. This hand offers 10 individually controllable degrees of freedom ranging from the elbow to the fingers, with overall control handled through a co...

The UW Hand: A Low-cost, 20-DOF Tendon-driven Hand with Fast and Compliant Actuation

We describe the process of designing and building a 20 degrees-of-freedom tendon-driven anthropomorphic robotic hand. We use 3D printing technology to reduce cost and save time. The entire mechanism is easily assembled thanks to our Snap-On joint design. The fingers are modular and can be individually modified with little effort. The hand is actuated by new pneumatic system consisting of an ass...

A Seven-degrees-of-freedom Robot-arm Driven by Pneumatic Artificial Muscles for Humanoid Robots

Braided pneumatic artificial muscles, and in particular the better known type with a double helical braid usually called the McKibben muscle, seem to be at present the best means for motorizing robotarms with artificial muscles. Their ability to develop high maximum force associated with lightness and a compact cylindrical shape, as well as their analogical behavior with natural skeletal muscle...

Recent Trends in Lower-Limb Robotic Rehabilitation Orthosis: Control Scheme and Strategy for Pneumatic Muscle Actuated Gait Trainers

It is a general assumption that pneumatic muscle-type actuators will play an important role in the development of an assistive rehabilitation robotics system. In the last decade, the development of a pneumatic muscle actuated lower-limb leg orthosis has been rather slow compared to other types of actuated leg orthoses that use AC motors, DC motors, pneumatic cylinders, linear actuators, series ...

A Compliant Biomimetic Artificial Finger for Anthropomorphic Robotic Hands via 3D Rapid Prototyping

This paper presents an anthropomorphic robotic finger that is composed of three biomimetic joints whose biomechanics and dynamic properties are close to their human counterparts. By using five pneumatic cylinders, the robotic finger is actuated through a series of simplified antagonistic tendons whose insertion points and moment arms at each joint are inherited from the anatomy of the human fin...
